Electric Ireland has been awarded a €60 million contract by the Office of Government Procurement to supply electricity to Government bodies and security services across Ireland over the next three years. The agreement covers all Government departments, Leinster House, An Garda Síochána sites, Defence Forces bases, the Prison Service, and Coast Guard operations, delivering an estimated 177,000 MWh—equivalent to powering over 42,000 households.

The electricity supplied under the contract meets the Government’s green energy requirements, reinforcing Ireland’s commitment to sustainable public sector operations. The three-year agreement commences on 1 November 2019 and represents a significant endorsement of Electric Ireland’s capacity to manage large-scale, high-volume energy contracts.

Dermot McArdle, Head of Business Markets at Electric Ireland, emphasised the company’s versatility and commitment to providing relevant, affordable, and flexible energy solutions across electricity and gas. He highlighted that the ‘Smarter for Business’ model enables the company to serve diverse non-residential sites, from large manufacturing plants and datacentres to medium-sized and smaller businesses across multiple sectors.

Electric Ireland’s business markets unit offers expert advice and innovative energy services, supporting organisations in pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, technology, food, and hospitality with tailored energy solutions. The contract underscores the role of strategic partnerships in delivering reliable, sustainable energy to critical public sector infrastructure.

This agreement not only secures energy supply for essential public services but also demonstrates the scalability and flexibility of innovative energy solutions across Ireland’s government and security operations.
