Ansaldo Energia secures 299MW government-linked procurement contract with ESB in Ireland

Italian energy company Ansaldo Energia has been awarded a 299MW contract through Ireland’s national procurement process with the government-linked Electricity Supply Board (ESB) to deliver a new energy security project at Poolbeg, Dublin, in partnership with Cobra. The firm will supply an AE94.3A gas turbine and associated generator.

The project involves the development of a simple cycle power plant to improve operational flexibility and system stability, addressing rising renewable energy penetration. The AE94.3A turbine, proven in peak load applications with over 5 million operating hours worldwide, was a decisive factor in winning the procurement award.

Scheduled for completion in early 2027, the plant will support Ireland’s power network by managing demand fluctuations and ensuring reliable electricity supply during periods of high renewable output. The collaboration highlights the integration of advanced technology with practical delivery for critical energy infrastructure.

Stefano Gianatti, EVP of New Units at Ansaldo Energia, described the contract as a recognition of the company’s manufacturing quality and its trusted position in energy transition and national energy security.
