The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has invited bids to procure 500 million units (MU) of renewable energy to power its operations and reduce carbon emissions. The procurement aims to support low-carbon infrastructure across its transit network and contribute to India’s broader sustainability goals.

DMRC seeks to partner with renewable energy suppliers capable of delivering reliable power through long-term contracts. The initiative covers both solar and other renewable sources, reflecting the corporation’s focus on diversifying its energy mix while ensuring grid stability.

The tender also sets operational and contractual guidelines to streamline integration with DMRC’s existing power systems. By leveraging competitive procurement, the corporation expects to optimise energy costs while meeting stringent regulatory and environmental requirements.

This move positions DMRC among the leading Indian organisations prioritising green energy in large-scale operations. It aligns with national targets for renewable energy adoption and demonstrates the potential for public sector utilities to accelerate clean energy uptake.

Industry stakeholders are watching closely, as the contract offers significant opportunities for renewable energy developers and service providers to participate in India’s transition to sustainable infrastructure. The bidding process is expected to attract competitive proposals, fostering innovation and efficiency in energy delivery.

The successful suppliers will play a key role in powering one of India’s largest metro networks with renewable energy, supporting long-term operational sustainability and environmental responsibility.
