Origin Enterprises has agreed to acquire Clarendon Agricare Ltd, a plant protection products distributor operating in Northern Ireland from its Portadown facility. The Dublin-based agricultural products and services provider expects to complete the transaction within weeks, subject to undisclosed conditions, with deal terms remaining confidential.

LSE reported that Clarendon Agricare provides plant protection products distribution and advisory services to distributors across grassland, arable, horticulture and amenity sectors throughout Northern Ireland. The acquisition strengthens Origin's plant protection distribution capabilities and merchant channel relationships in the Northern Ireland market.

The transaction expands Origin's existing Northern Ireland operations, which include fertiliser and feed joint venture activities alongside its Origin Northern Ireland business. Clarendon Agricare's Portadown facility serves as a distribution hub for plant protection products supplied to agricultural merchants and distributors across the region.

Sean Coyle, chief executive of Origin Enterprises, said: "This acquisition strengthens our plant protection distribution capability and supports the merchant channel with which we have positive relationship via our existing Fertiliser and Feed joint venture operations and our Origin Northern Ireland business."

Origin Enterprises operates across Ireland, the United Kingdom and continental Europe, providing agronomy services, inputs distribution and digital agriculture solutions. The company's strategy focuses on consolidating market positions through selective acquisitions of distribution businesses and service providers serving agricultural customers.

Plant protection products distribution in Northern Ireland serves arable farmers, grassland producers and horticultural operations requiring crop protection inputs including herbicides, fungicides and insecticides. Distributors like Clarendon Agricare provide procurement, logistics and technical advisory services alongside product supply.

The acquisition timing aligns with Origin's growth strategy in UK and Ireland markets, where agricultural input distribution businesses face consolidation pressure amid regulatory changes, margin compression and changing farmer purchasing patterns.
