MetroLink has invited bidders to participate in tenders for trains, tracks and station infrastructure for Dublin's automated metro system, covering railway systems, rolling stock and station fit-out across 16 stations. The procurement represents a major package within Ireland's first metro project, with contracts valued at billions of euros for integrated railway delivery.

Railway News reported that the tender invitation follows prequalification processes identifying qualified bidders capable of delivering automated metro systems meeting Transport Infrastructure Ireland's technical and operational requirements. Bidders must demonstrate experience in driverless metro operations, systems integration and high-frequency urban rail services.

The procurement scope encompasses rolling stock manufacture and delivery, track installation including special trackwork at junctions and crossovers, overhead power supply infrastructure, signalling and train control systems, telecommunications networks and station mechanical and electrical systems. Integration requirements demand coordinated delivery across multiple technical disciplines.

Automated metro operations require platform screen doors, automatic train supervision systems, train-to-wayside communications and depot automation enabling driverless train movements, maintenance activities and fleet management. Bidders must provide proven technology meeting European safety certification standards for unattended train operations.

Rolling stock specifications address passenger capacity requirements, accessibility standards, reliability targets and maintenance regimes supporting high-frequency metro operations. Trains must accommodate peak demand whilst providing comfortable journeys during off-peak periods, with design features including air conditioning, real-time passenger information and emergency communications.

Station infrastructure procurement covers architectural finishes, passenger facilities, accessibility provisions, ventilation systems, fire safety equipment and platform screen door installations. Underground stations require specialist systems managing air quality, temperature control and emergency evacuation provisions.

The tender process includes technical evaluation, commercial assessment and reference site visits enabling Transport Infrastructure Ireland to verify bidder capabilities.
