MDA Space awarded new contract to support Canadian satellite programme
MDA Space, a Canadian aerospace company, has been awarded a C$44.7 million (€27.2m) national procurement contract by Public Services and Procurement Canada on behalf of the Canadian Space Agency (CSA).
The contract will see MDA supply and deliver critical long lead parts for the RADARSAT Constellation Mission (RCM) replenishment satellite development. The announcement was made on 4 December 2025.
The Government of Canada also indicated its intention to award MDA Space the full contract to build, test, and launch the additional RCM satellite in 2026, pending contract finalisation and approvals. This procurement underlines Canada’s commitment to maintaining and expanding its space-based Earth Observation capabilities.
In addition to the satellite component contract, MDA Space secured a separate $747,000 (€641,550) contract to deliver a concept study focused on a modern, resilient radar satellite system. The study will address growing government, industry, and community demands for space-based observation data, with MDA one of three firms selected for this work.
Mike Greenley, CEO of MDA Space, said: “By leveraging the advanced development of the MDA Chorus satellite design for this replenishment satellite, we can offer the CSA a cost-effective and timely solution that ensures continuity of service to meet the evolving needs of Canadian users. We look forward to finalizing the contract for the full mission and building upon our long history of collaboration to deliver critical space-based solutions for Canada.”
