Northern Ireland construction group Kane Group has secured a multi-million-pound mechanical and electrical contract for the redevelopment of Edgbaston cricket stadium in Birmingham, strengthening its position within the UK construction supply chain.

The Banbridge-based contractor will deliver the full MEP installation package as part of the redevelopment being delivered by Sisk. The project includes a new 146-bedroom Radisson RED hotel and redevelopment of an existing stadium stand, with the wider scheme being progressed ahead of the 2027 Ashes series. The Irish News reported that the contract represents a significant new award for Kane as it expands its involvement in complex UK construction projects.

From a procurement perspective, the appointment demonstrates the importance of specialist contractor selection within major construction programmes. Kane's package covers mechanical and electrical installation and will be supported by its integrated design, engineering, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and maintenance capabilities. The project will also draw on Kane's expanded manufacturing facilities, including a 20,445 sq ft extension to its production operations.
