Ireland confirms €173.9m procurement for 100 new electric DART trains

Ireland has confirmed a €173.9 million investment to procure 100 new electric DART trains for Dublin's rail network, marking a significant expansion and modernisation of the capital's public transport infrastructure. The fleet procurement will replace aging trains whilst expanding capacity across the DART system, supporting both commuter services and tourism accessibility.

Travel and Tour World reported that the new electric trains will enhance reliability, passenger comfort and operational efficiency across Dublin's coastal and city rail routes. The investment forms part of Ireland's broader public transport modernisation programme, addressing capacity constraints and service quality challenges on the DART network.

The procurement covers design, manufacture and delivery of electric multiple unit trains configured for Dublin's DART infrastructure, including compatibility with existing electrification systems and platform specifications. Iarnród Éireann, Ireland's state-owned railway operator, will oversee the procurement process and fleet introduction.
