Indra expands Dublin operations to deliver national ticketing systems

The Irish transport and mobility sector is entering a new phase following the opening of a dedicated Dublin office by Indra Group, a global technology provider specialising in transportation and mobility systems. The expansion strengthens Indra’s role as a core technology partner to the National Transport Authority and consolidates long-term delivery of Ireland’s nationwide public transport ticketing programme.

The Dublin office will act as the central hub for the development and implementation of the integrated ticketing system covering the country’s full public transport network, including buses, trams, national rail services and the future Dublin Metro. 

The programme represents one of the most complex and high-value mobility procurements currently underway in Ireland, spanning multiple operators, modes and regions.

Indra’s solution is built on a multimodal backend platform designed to integrate numerous transport operators while supporting both physical and digital sales channels. 

The system incorporates EMV-based access using bank cards, mobile phones and smartwatches, reducing reliance on proprietary cards and aligning with international best practice in public transport payments. For procurement authorities, this approach supports scalability, interoperability and long-term value across framework lifecycles.

The expansion has drawn strong backing from government and agencies. 

Darragh O’Brien, minister for Transport, Climate, Environment and Energy, said: “The opening of Indra’s new headquarters in Dublin is a clear sign of Ireland’s ambition to stand at the forefront of innovation in transportation.” 

He added that the office “will be the nerve center for the implementation of the national contactless ticketing system.”

Anne Shaw, CEO of the National Transport Authority, noted: “Having a dedicated team based in Dublin will ensure that the state-of-the-art ticketing project is developed by combining local knowledge and global expertise.”
