Electric Ireland to power key government and security sites under €60 million deal
Electric Ireland has signed a three-year contract with the Office of Government Procurement worth over €60 million to supply electricity to Ireland’s key public service and security infrastructure. The agreement will deliver an estimated 177,000 MWh of electricity—enough to power more than 42,000 households—to Government Departments, Leinster House, An Garda Síochána stations, Defence Forces bases, prisons, and Coast Guard operations.
The deal ensures that all supplied energy meets the Government’s green electricity standards, underlining Ireland’s continuing shift towards sustainable energy in public operations. The contract, effective from 1 November 2019, highlights Electric Ireland’s capability to manage complex, high-volume energy requirements across diverse sites, from administrative buildings to critical national services.
Dermot McArdle, Head of Business Markets at Electric Ireland, said the contract “demonstrates our versatility to manage large volume contracts” and reflects the company’s commitment to providing “relevant, affordable and flexible energy solutions.”
Through its Smarter for Business model, Electric Ireland continues to deliver integrated electricity, gas, and energy efficiency services across sectors including manufacturing, technology, and healthcare. The partnership marks a continued evolution of Ireland’s public energy strategy—linking national security, sustainability, and efficiency under one unified framework.
