Dublin MetroLink consortium prepares bid for automated metro
A consortium led by Plenary Group has formed to bid for Dublin’s automated metro system, marking a significant national procurement initiative in Ireland.
The tender covers the design, construction, delivery, and operation of a high-capacity network linking north and south Dublin.
Within the consortium, Plenary Group serves as equity investor and bid coordinator. Webuild is tasked with civil and structural works, while Hitachi Rail will provide rolling stock, advanced signalling, and systems integration to ensure seamless operations. Keolis will manage operations and maintenance services once the metro is operational.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) launched the tender on November 12, 2025, with submissions due by January 23, 2026. The delivery partner contract is scheduled for award in April 2026. Another consortium including FCC, Meridiam, John Laing, RATP Dev, and Alstom is also preparing a bid, highlighting the project’s strategic importance for international rail and infrastructure providers.
The planned 19 km north–south metro line will connect Sword, 16.5 km north of Dublin city centre, to Charlemont, 5 km south, passing through Dublin Airport. Sixteen stations are planned along the route, with most of the line underground to meet capacity and urban density requirements. The project is expected to reshape urban mobility in Dublin, with a focus on reliability, high capacity, and integrated systems.
The consortium structure and tender process illustrate the scale and complexity of national procurement projects in Ireland, involving multi-national partners, advanced engineering, and long-term operational planning.
The Dublin automated metro procurement is a landmark opportunity for companies in construction, rail systems, and operations management to engage in a transformative Irish infrastructure project.
