1Spatial wins Ordnance Survey contract to digitise UK underground assets

1Spatial, a UK technology group listed on the AIM, has won a £4.2m contract from Ordnance Survey to deliver the National Underground Asset Register (NUAR) Data Transformation and Ingestion service across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The contract, which includes £1.5m in licence revenues, is set for two years with an option to extend for an additional three.

The initiative will compile and process data from more than 600 public and private asset owners, including utility companies and local authorities, through 1Spatial’s Data platform, making the information instantly accessible across sectors. The project is expected to generate over £400m (€456m) annually in economic benefits, driven by enhanced efficiency, fewer asset strikes, and reduced public disruption.

The contract is particularly relevant to Northern Ireland, where the modernisation of underground infrastructure will improve cross-sector coordination and reduce risks associated with maintenance and construction work. The NUAR project represents a critical step in creating a digital map of buried assets across the UK, supporting safer, more efficient operations for both private and public stakeholders.

1Spatial’s share price rose 3.7% to 46.66p following the contract announcement, reflecting market confidence in the company’s role in advancing government digital infrastructure initiatives.
